.G.A.
Recent History.
Tuesday night was the runway show for Giorgio Armani.
We went as a gang of us: 8 very Armani-ishly dressed black clad fashionistas wearing appropriate proportions of leather to wool to fur we sat in our upper berth row overlooking the runway. We felt very dapper. Runway was filled with photographers shooting in tandem whichever star they had just discovered sitting there in their cutest duds in pose - being upper berth we couldn't see who was in the first row beneath us, but by the number of flashbulbs going off could only assume that it was somebody terribly important. We thought they had gotten enough pix of Kim Cattrail to kill a horse, but apparently not. She was looking ultra glamorous.
Show was GA as can be -- endless entrances of models, all very spectacular as they sauntered down an extremely long white lit runway, no less than 8 slipups on the slick surface -- the clothing was dated and every head was crowned in bizarre smurf-like hats of formed straw in varying colors -- something that detracted from the best element of the show which was the dresses. All very full with wonderfully cut tops to them with uniquely draped skirts. But very asian in tempo with much studio 54 redux built in.
After party was far too large - within moments we all lost each other in the massive crowds, all quite beautiful, all quite well dressed and chi chi beyond reason. Having finally lost the last of our gang, Andrew and I slipped out into the night to find dinner. Cafe Luxembourg was still serving at 11:30 and we were happy to have our steak frites and red wine in a calm and cool atmosphere where there was nobody left to lose but ourselves in conversation. So we did.
